Oakever Sudoku Alternatives: Variants, Offline, No Tickets

Oakever's "Sudoku: Brain Puzzle Games" packs a lot in: classic puzzles at four levels, undo and redo, full offline play, Killer and Letter Sudoku, and multiplayer tournaments. Its listing sells both subscriptions and battle tickets. The right alternative depends on which part you came for. For more variants, Sudoku: Classic Puzzle Games or Killer Sudoku by Sudoku.com. For plain classic sudoku with nothing to buy, Sudoku Royale. For a one-time price and full offline play, Sudoku by Mind The Frog. For much harder puzzles, Good Sudoku.

Oakever's app is big and established: listed since 2018, with 313,688 US ratings. One thing to know before comparing: its listing text promises an "ad-free game environment", while its App Store age rating notes advertising. We cannot tell from the listing which parts of the app show ads, so treat ads as possible and check in the app.

For variants: two apps that go further

If Killer Sudoku is why you open Oakever's app, a dedicated killer app gives you far more of it. Killer Sudoku by Sudoku.com is Easybrain's killer-only app, with thousands of levels, daily challenges with trophies and seasonal events. It is free with ads and sells Killer Sudoku No Ads for $14.99. Our best killer sudoku apps page compares the rest.

If you like switching between puzzle types, Sudoku: Classic Puzzle Games (by Block Puzzle Games) lists Killer, X-Sudoku and Hyper Sudoku next to classic, plus offline play, step-by-step help and a daily challenge with streaks. Its age rating notes advertising and its paid items are Sudoku Premium $4.99, Sudoku Premium $39.99. Neither app mentions Letter Sudoku. For what each variant asks of you, see sudoku variants explained.

For classic sudoku without the shop

Oakever's listing shows subscriptions alongside packs of battle tickets. If all you play is the classic grid, that is a lot of store for one puzzle. Sudoku Royale (our app) has no ads, no purchases and no subscription. It plays classic 9x9 only, at six levels; the top two, Master and Extreme, sit above an Expert level. Hints in Practice name the technique and the cell rather than the number, and the Journey teaches one technique per chapter.

It is not a straight swap. Sudoku Royale has no undo or redo (a wrong number is rejected as you place it), no Killer or Letter Sudoku, and only part of it works offline: Practice runs on puzzles it has already downloaded, while the Daily Challenge, the Dojo and hints need a connection.

If the tournaments were part of the fun, Sudoku Royale has live play too, as an extra rather than the point of the app: rated Duels and Tournaments, a Battle Royale on one shared grid, and unrated games with friends or with people next to you over Bluetooth. None of it costs anything or uses tickets. Our multiplayer sudoku guide compares the apps that have it.

For offline play and a one-time price

Oakever promises full offline support. If that is the feature you cannot lose, Sudoku by Mind The Frog is the closest match with a single payment: unlimited grids on or offline, six levels from easy to "diabolical", undo and redo, automatic and manual notes, and conflict highlighting. Its ads go with Remove Ads at $1.99. The best offline sudoku apps page lists what works without Wi-Fi in each app.

For harder puzzles

Oakever tops out at Expert. Good Sudoku says its hardest puzzles need XYZ-Wings, Hidden Quadruples, Jellyfish and Swordfish, and its hint looks at your notes to find the technique you are missing. It sells a Full Game Unlock for $4.99. Sudoku Royale's Extreme puzzles need techniques up to XY-Wing, and its Dojo drills patterns like the X-Wing until you spot them quickly.

When Oakever is still the better pick

  • You want everything in one app. Classic, Killer, Letter Sudoku and tournaments under one icon is rare.
  • You play offline a lot. Its listing says the whole app works offline; Sudoku Royale's daily puzzle and hints do not.
  • You use undo and redo. Sudoku Royale has neither.
  • You want the app in your language. Oakever's listing shows 62 languages; Sudoku Royale's app is in English only.

The short version

Variants: Sudoku: Classic Puzzle Games, or Killer Sudoku by Sudoku.com for killer alone. Offline with one payment: Mind The Frog. The hardest puzzles: Good Sudoku. Classic sudoku with no ads and no store at all: download Sudoku Royale. The feature-by-feature version is Sudoku Royale vs Oakever Sudoku, and the rest are on the comparisons hub.
